island of barú
The Island of Barú, famous for its Playa Blanca or “White Beach,” is located south of Cartagena, Colombia. Initially a peninsula, the island was separated from the village of Pasacaballos by the Dique Canal. The construction of the canal transformed Barú into an island. Up until 2014, the only way to cross was on rafts until the Barú Bridge was completed and inaugurated later that year.
